Etymology: Pseudochromis: Greek, pseudes = false + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335);  yamasakii: Named for Kimihiro Yamasaki, who collected the holotype and provided photographs of the new species..

Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 25; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 15; Vertebrae: 26. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: D III,25, all segmented rays are branched; A III,15 where anal-fin spines are moderately stout and pungent, the second spine stouter than third; scales in lateral series 37-38; circumpeduncular scales 16; predorsal scales 15, extending anteriorly to anterior AIO pores; caudal fin is rounded (Ref. 118103).
