Diagnosis: body depth slightly less than its greatest width; head depressed with a somewhat rugose upper surface; snout broadly rounded; nostril nearer end of snout than to eye; buccal cleft straight; mandibular tooth band less than half as long antero-posteriorly as premaxillary tooth band; maxillary barbel reaching to half of head length and at least twice as long as mandibular barbels; humeral process striated and acutely pointed; adipose fin almost 3 times as long as deep; anal fin with 10-11 rays, 1st and occasionally 2nd rays rudimentary; pectoral spine, strong, striated and strongly serrated along posterior margin; pelvic fin reaching almost to anal fin origin; caudal peduncle 1.5 times as long as deep (Ref. 81251). Coloration: body mottled brown with small dark spots on sides and dorsal surface of body; 2 dark bands present on posterior half of body (1 between adipose and anal fin and 1 on caudal peduncle); pectoral fin darkly pigmented along base of fin rays; distal half of pelvic and anal fin rays lightly pigmented; caudal fin with 2 dark bands, 1 at base and another at tips of fin rays (Ref. 81251).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5078   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00389 (0.00180 - 0.00842), b=3.12 (2.94 - 3.30), in cm total length, based on all LWR estimates for this body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.2   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
Price category (Ref. 80766):   Unknown.
