Present in the Sangha and Ubangi rivers (middle Congo River basin) and the Gribingui (Lake Chad basin) (Ref. 43912). Also known from the LĂ©fini-middle Congo confluence (Ref. 88782). In the national Congolese

fishculture centre of Djoumouna near Brazzaville some preliminary experiments were undertaken in 1988-1990 by F.A.O. to rear S. intermedius (form without an adipose fin) in fish ponds (Marquet, pers. comm.)(Ref. 43912).
