Comments

Assumed to be introduced for aquaculture (Ref. 1739, 51823). Well-established populations throughout the country (Ref. 51823). Appears to have dominated reservoirs and man-made lakes. Not well received as a foodfish and has since become free-roaming, with feral populations inhabiting freshwater and low-salinity habitats. Locally called "Japanese fish" or "Java fish" due to its source of introduction. Also Ref. 2, 1739, 13364, 52035, 84946, 108093.
