Introduced from Thailand by the private sector in 1990 for aquaculture reasons (Ref. 58847). This introduction was a threat to the local fish because of predation of smaller fish and the nibbling of the fins and body parts of bigger fish, and by now the culture of the African catfish is banned in Myanmar (Ref. 58847).
