Ranges from the Kobuk River, south along the coastal regions to the Copper River (Ref. 27547). Also reported from Coronation Gulf, Northwest Territories (Ref. 96339). Turner 1886 (Ref. 28700) reported that this species is extremely abundant in suitable ponds and streams. Hubbs 1925 (Ref. 11508) pointed out that the Osmerus thaleichthys record from the Nushagak River, Bristol Bay area (Gilbert 1896, Ref. 11366) was a misidentifications of Hypomesus olidus (Ref. 27547).
