Spawning Cycles: (1/y)   Ref:
Comments: Spawns in the fall, the exact time varying with latitude and temperature (Ref. 27547). It occurs mainly in lakes but a few populations are known to spawn in streams tributary to Lake Superior (Ref. 28811). Lake trout show a marked tendency to return to their natural spawning areas (Ref. 28808, 28811, 30356, 30357), and spawn over clean rocky bottoms with depths of less than a meter (Ref. 28804, 28805, 28806) to as deep as 36 m (Ref. 28808). Fecundity varies from a few hundred to more than 17,000 eggs, the number increasing with the size of the fish (Ref. 28808).
