Family:  Synodontidae (Lizardfishes), subfamily: Synodontinae
Max. size:  8.1 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-neritic; marine; depth range 90 - 99 m
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: Fiji.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-15; Anal soft rays: 9-10; Vertebrae: 55-56. This species is distinct in having the following characters: D 14-15; A 9-10; pectoral rays 13; 55-56 lateral line scales; 4½ scales between lateral line and base of dorsal fin; 15 median predorsal scales; 55-56 vertebrae; 14 predorsal vertebrae; 5-6 peritoneal spots; 3 anterior palatine teeth of inner row longer than posterior teeth; preopercle fully scaled; anterior nostril's membranous posterior flap long and thin, narrowing to a filamentous tip reaching well beyond posterior nostril when laid back; body depth 6.45-6.55 in SL; pectoral fins reaching posterior to a line connecting dorsal- and pelvic-fin origins, fin length 2.1-2.15 in HL; alcohol preserved color pale yellowish, when fresh pale pink with 8 light orangish red bars on body that narrow ventrally, even-numbered bars darker; dorsal and pelvic fins faintly banded with light red and white (Ref. 80927).
