Family:  Microdesmidae (Wormfishes), subfamily: Ptereleotrinae
Max. size:  2.54 cm SL (female)
Environment:  benthopelagic; brackish
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Iriomote Island, Japan; also known from Papua New Guinea and Irian Jaya, Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 17-18; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 17-18. Description: Characterized by brownish body with white belly; presence of thin blackish stripe along lower body; base of caudal fin with large bluish to black spot; head pores present around top and rear margin of each eye and two opercular pores (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Found in tidal areas of small streams in mangrove swamps. Forms aggregations near surface of marine lake, tidal streams and mangrove areas (Ref. 90102).
