Family:  Ophichthidae (Snake eels), subfamily: Myrophinae
Max. size:  21 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range - 186 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: Bermuda, Bahamas, Cuba (Ref. 26340), Lesser Antilles, and Belize. Reported from the northern coast of South America (Ref. 5217). Also southern Brazil (Ref. 26938).
Diagnosis:  Pale with widely spaced small black spots on back side (Ref. 26938).
Biology:  Inhabits tidal creeks or protected and semi-protected bays, never from the surf zone (Ref. 5521).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 15 August 2011 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
