Family:  Congridae (Conger and garden eels), subfamily: Congrinae
Max. size:  150 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; brackish; marine; depth range 0 - 30 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: southern Mozambique to the Cape of Good Hope; also Maldives. Western Pacific: Australia, Lord Howe Island, and New Zealand. Possibly occurring in Japan.
Diagnosis:  Vertebrae: 140-142. Brownish grey dorsally, creamy white ventrally. Wide dusky margin on median fins.
Biology:  Inhabits coastal waters and estuaries. Demersal on rocky reefs (Ref. 9563). Flesh highly esteemed. Minimum depth reported taken from Ref. 86942.
