Family:  Chaunacidae (Sea toads o coffinfishes)
Max. size:  40 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 200 - 1000 m
Distribution:  Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 1-1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 5-7. Rosy in color with golden spots on head and body; fins pink; front of esca dusky with rosy colored stem (Ref. 4115).
Biology:  Found on continental shelves and slopes, from approximately 200 m and below (Ref. 10756). A solitary species (Ref. 26340).

Threat to humans:  harmless
